ORIGINAL: civicexboy

Hi everyone I'm new to this site....Well I just bought a 04 civic ex coupe and honda told me for the first oil change in at 5k miles and then after that to change it every 3,500 miles..hope this helps..later
For everyday driving, you only need to change it every 5k (regardless of what anyone tells you about engine wear, 3,500 is a waste of money). It's even printed under the hood. Older civics (4G/5G) you only need to change every 7,500. Despite this, I still go for every 4.5 - 5k in my 4G.

my 99 civic gets its oil changed every 2500 miles or 3000 at the latest, im not sure what to tell you about on the newer models, but i drive mine hard ever day of the week and even at 3000 miles the oil still looks good its just i change it anyways, its like those people who wash their hands 30 times a day.

Yeah, it pretty much just comes down to your driving style/how nit picky you want to be (not to offend anyone).

the more important thing isto change the filter. i run mobil 1 and thats good for quite a few miles. i chage at 7000-7500 and the oil is still clear. but i change the filter at 3000-3500

I have a new 04 Civic LX and the dealer told me that the factory oil has additives and that they don't want you to change the oil for the first 5,000 miles. I think that it allows the engine to be broken in properly.

Im at 3500 and the oil still looks new on the dipstick. For some reason I can't seem to make myelf let it get over 4K. I actually start feeling guilty at 3K, this is most likely because an old S10 I had had the worst burnt looking oil after 2K.

A guy I know has 280K on his stock del sol and swears on 5K oil changes. The engine does not sound the best, but it's still all original.

yeah, 5k is nothin, you can go 7-10 on synthetic too. though a normal filter should be changed more often.

yea I am too, thats why at 3000 miles I wanted to change the oil, so i went out to buy oil and a filter and then thought I should call the dealer and he said not till 5000, so after that I will start doin it every 3k.
