if you baby the car, then yes, you can go 10,000 mi. oil change to oil change, although it's not highly recommended. for a stock n/a motor that doesn't see high rpms, youcan go about 7500 mi. the reason most oil change stations recommend you to return for another oil change in 3k miles is for 1. more business 2.they use the cheapest filters (as previously mentioned). i've seen them try and charge people (they tried one time on me, lol)for the "premium" oil change with synthetic, but they actually put very low grade oil and filter on. i argued my *** off at them, and they tried to play it off as if they didn't. that's why i'm the only one that will ever touch my car, unless it's one of my family members businesses. if you run synthetic, you'll be fine for 7500, for conventional, you'll be fine for a little under 5,000 (considering you purchase a quality filter).
