the 3.5 is just going to allow for back pressure which is going to hold back your power levels. It may not be loud on that particular application, but it is hurting the overall performance.

Are you saying that it will increase or decrease backpressure?

And you know that i'm only referring to the muffler tip by that size, right?

Yes. Just the outlet.

Maybe I should try it this way -- what benefit do you get from having lets say a 2.5 inlet, and a 3.5+ outlet?

It doesn't matter what size the outlet is, the outlet is only the last 3-4" of the exhaust, and it's after the muffler

P.S. you have your backpressure backwards... increasing size decreases backpressure, not increases.

Also, all it's doing is raising the powerband by decreasing backpressure, which helps you gain horsepower. Of course, you don't just go put the biggest exhaust possible on your car though.
This isn't the tip doing this though, it's the exhaust piping being bigger than stock. The tip being a little large is almost irrelevant as it has very little effect being the difference in size that it is from the exhaust piping.

Just out of curiosity, how much benefit is there to getting a bigger TB and are there any backpressure related issues to be concerned with when getting a larger tb?

Getting a bigger throttle body will decrease velocity, but will increase flow capacity.

Basically, you want to have a nice balance between velocity and flow capacity... this balance point is specific to the engine. For example, if you were building a monster high-revving N/A engine, you would need to make the throttle body large to increase flow capacity so that you can stretch your gains across the wide powerband. If you just want more power out of your stock engine, you're going to want the throttle body a little bigger than it is stock, but not by nearly as much.

There's a lot of factors in deciding how big you want it... this is just the basics.

I'm pretty sure this is correct info. I didn't really look anything up, just going off of information I have read in the past and using some common sense based on that info.
