Plastidipped rims?
I am refinishing some OEM wheels that I got off of a parts car. I'm sanding them by hand and also using a buddies sandblaster when I get the chance to. Originally I was going to just paint them a gloss black, but a buddy of mine said that he knows a few guys that plastidipped their rims and that they turned out great, so I figured I'd give it a go..
I already did the center caps and they looks great, I'm hopefully going to be painting the first rim as soon as it warms up a bit.. But I was just curious to see if anyone else has tried Plastidip on various car parts and if they were satisfied.. |
What is plastidip?
|
im guessing dipping them in plastic. it would seem to be more durable than paint, it wont chip, but i never seen it or heard of it. i would like to see pics.

not once my friend, that word is new to my vocabulary.

btw dont the rims heat up while driving?
or is that stuff heat resistant |

so it's a spray correct? i flat blacked my rims btw with hi-temp paint for stoves/bbqs etc. here's the finished look..BEFORE https://i48.tinypic.com/2sb1z81.jpg ..&AFTER https://i48.tinypic.com/2w2na0y.jpg i'm happy with the outcome, but if the plastidip looks better go for it. |
Just paint them with metal paint..... dont paint metal with plastic paint...
|
i think it would be a good idea because it would help prevent dings and stuff in the rims, since its putting on a coating of rubber. i would like to see pics.

I like the idea of it being it being durable and withstand better against chips. But since I am doing both the inside and outside of the rim, I'm assuming the brakes would heat up too much for it? PlastiDip's website says its good until 200 degrees. Think that will be suitable?..
Heres the center caps, I tried to give you guys the best view of the texture of it as possible. It almost resembles a spray in bedliner for a truck, but on a smaller grain scale. |
