Unhappy Programming transponder key for a 2009 Honda Civic

I recently purchased a salvaged 2009 Honda Civic which came with 1 key. I feel more comfortable if I have an extra key in case 1 is misplaced or locked in the car by accident. I purchased a blank key off Ebay, paid a local locksmith to cut and program it. Locksmith suggested I use the new one to get it worn in. I did that for about 5 days. I tried to use the original key and now it doesn't work. He tells me he didn't do anything to the original key and I need to pay him 60 more dollars on top of the $136 already paid to him to cut the new key. I can't afford to pay again to have the original key programmed again when it should never have stopped working. Dealerships seem to charge $96. Does anyone know of someone that would take pity on someone in this type of situation? Or am I just screwed for trying to save a trip to a dealership and using someone local to program? I am very angry and disappointed in this entire situation and am back at square one with only 1 working key. Less over $160 for key, cutting and programming. I am between Houston and Austin, TX.

Paying to a local locksmith is not a bad idea at all.
