Default Question about a strut bar

Hi, i'm looking at getting a strut bar for my 93 civic si coupe, I found a ractive strut bar, used, from someone parting out cars, and I was wondering, if it's in decent condition, would 40$ be too much to pay for it?

did he say what year civic, it should probably fit tho since they make a 92-00 fitment. You can get much cheaper ones like the no name ones on ebay that still perform just as good. Also for future referance if your not sure if something is priced good search it on google or ebay and see how much it goes for.

It's for a 5th gen civic. I would have checked on ebay, but i've dealt with the guy before, and I don't have any way of buying things off ebay, unless my parents really approve, and I doubt they will for this.

You live in canada, don't you?

Anyway, you can usually get a brand new strut tower bar for ~$60, depending on the company. Also, the 2-point bars that just go from strut tower to strut tower don't really do much. Sure, they tie the strut towers together, but now if they do roll (unlikely, given the rigidity of the strut towers), they simply roll together. To eliminate the roll (that isn't going to take place on the streets anyway), look into 3-point braces that bolt to the firewall.

Yeah, I live in canada, why do you ask?
I'll have a look into some 3-point braces then, if the strut bar isn't going to do much. Are the 3-points much harder to put in than the bar? or basically just a slap in?

The 3 point is easy to install.

I asked because you said "93 SI coupe", and the SI was offered as only a hatch for the USDM EGs.

Anyway, like splat said, the 3-points aren't hard to install at all. They take maybe 5 minutes longer to install than a 2-point brace, and the 2-point braces take 5-10 minutes to install even if you only have a box wrench.

In Canada the Si is an EX in the US.

If your parents don't approve of the strut bars on eBay they should give up at utilizing this great tool we have called the internet.

Pretty much all 2 point strut bars are equal. They all work, and they all do the same thing. The only strut bars worth paying any more than you would pay on eBay for a 2-point strut bar are 3-point strut bars. Benen Industries makes one. I also believe that Password:JDM makes one.
