Rebuild time

So, my engine with over 300,000 miles finally went.
Blew a ring. Ring broke stuff. =\

Sooooo.... I'm buying myself a 85 chevy for a DD.

Anyways - was wanting to put the d16 vtech -- just kidding - vtec in. Was wondering if I have to do an ECU change, or if it would just plug and play.

If it's the same D16 and you're keeping the same transmission, then it'll work fine. If you're swapping to a different D16 or a different transmission, you need a different ECU. I'm guessing you didn't have a vtec engine before, so you WILL need a different ECU. What engine did you have and what engine are you going to swap in? Be sure that your new ECU matches your transmission (auto or manual) too.

ECU's can also be repined from auto to manual. And btw, what's a rebuild? I've only heard of a JDM swap yo.

ej - I was thinking of fixing the motor back.
BUT... was also wondering about swapping.

itinerant - I have the weak 'ol d15 .. i tihnk b2.
I know a guy who has a d16zc. He wants 300 for it. But if im going to have to invest in a new ECU and all that good junk, I'll just rebuild my stock motor. I just need it to get me to and from work at the moment.

I'm still debaiting between fixin up the hatch, and getting the truck. I think what I'm going to end up doing is getting the truck for a daily driver, and getting the honda into the good 'ol shop. Make her a good 'ol track car. =)

ecus sell like hotcakes, especially d series. or you could rewire the auto ecu (if that's the case) to a manual ecu, that is if it's a P28 or P5M and some others.

B/H/K swap. depending on budget id do a k swap. change out the complete wiring harness, shift linkage, ecu. change it all. same with the b and h. i honestly think d series motors are nothing better than a boat anchore. NO OFFENSE to anyone that likes d series.

OR you can rebuild your d motor and but the vtec head on it. i have one. complete with rocker assembly, cam valve cover, cam gear dizzy, vtec sol. If interested PM me for more details

K series simply cost too much. lol. thats a lot of work. lol

I've finally figured out what I'm doing. I have a buddy who happesn to have a 90 hatch. Bone stock < how rare is that ?? >, and its a 4 speed. He's had it stored at his dad's house for a while now. He actually forgot about it. Had his dad start it today. Said it started right up. All it needs is tires. =) Lettin me take her for 200.

I've already began ripping out the motor in my current hatch, and fixing up all her little issues she's had. So, hopefully by summer time I'll have a new motor in her.
Which leads me to ask about turbos. I was thinking about doing a b18 build. But not sure of how to build for turbo, and have never been introduced to the world of turbo.

Any insight?
