Recommended oil filter does not fit.

Hello, I have a 1990 Honda CRX with an auto d15b2. The oil filter that is supposed to fit on such an engine (for fram) is supposed to be a PH3593A. I have tried two of these and the threads get very tight after about 1/2 of travel.

The oil filter I removed is a blue 'genuine Honda' oil filter stamped with the code "S12661".I removed the original by hand, and it came of nicely. The threads of both components are in good shape.

I have pix of the original oil filter, the engine code, and oil filter mounting point, if you wish to see.

So does anyone have any ideas as to what the problem might be? This seems very strange to me...

If you went to autozone try advance auto parts if that doesnt work try the one recomended for 1989. i have a 1989 hatchback with a b15a6 and the clutch autozone gave me didnt come close to fitting. Went to advance auto parts got it first try.

Fram is not generally considered the best quality oil filter. Look for Wix or NAPA gold, or Purolator oil filters. I believe the PH3593A you mention is their el-cheapo filter. Use extended guard if you must use Fram.

But can't say I've ever heard of the THREADS being messed up. Can you hold the 2 next to each other and physically see any difference in the threads?
