Shifting habits -- what's yours?
I generally shift between 1,000 and 7,000 rpm. I double clutch when downshifting to first gear (almost never). Doesn't heel-toe involve some double clutching? Because sometimes when I do it, I blip the gas before pushing down the clutch to make it easier to get into 2nd.
There's no need to double clutch. Heel-n-toe consists of working the brake with the ball of your foot while rev matching with the heal of the same foot. The point is to match the engine RPM to the given gear so there is no jerkyness that could cause you to slow down or disrupt the car. I rev match on all my cars as it is a habit from track driving for me.
if i need to conserve gas and money, which is almost all the time, ill shift at about 2500. but if i feel like going a lil faster ill shift at about 4k. i'll only go above 6-7k if im racing or if i reeeeally feel like letting loose.
i shift through feel and sound. the dx doesn't have a tach and I haven't had the desire to put one in. It makes downshifting a bit hap hazard, but I think I'm getting better at it.
I never downshift into 1st, except if I'm like at really close to a stop.

Yeah, but sometimes if I'm going like say 50mph coming into a turn, right when I start braking, I'll blip the gas with the clutch out to make it go into gear easier, and relieve some wear on the synchros. Then while I'm in the turn I'll do the whole heel-toe routine with the clutch in.

Yeah, I can get it into 2nd when I'm at higher speeds, but when I'm doing it without double clutching, the shifter stops before fully engaging (I'm assuming this is where the synchros are coming into play), and then it'll drop into gear.
