So why are high mileage original motors so rare?

Default So why are high mileage original motors so rare?

I've been looking at classifieds for Civics on Crags List. Many of the Civic have less than 200,000 chassis miles but often on rebuilt motors? What am I missing here my Civic has 239,000 Original miles. Just a blown head gasket around 100,000 miles. On a few occasion before I switched to synthetic oil my oil change interval would sometimes drift into the 7,000 + miles range.

So why are high mileage original motors so rare? Are people not checking the oil and burning up engines? What is the malfunction? What is the average Joe or Jane doing wrong? By the way - I remember when my 93 Civic was new - there where tons of them on the road - where did they all go?

Any thoughts?

my civic had 140,000 on the engine i swapped in, and the chassis was only 122,000. my engine ran fine, but it was stating to smoke a little. i am going to rebuild it when i get another car to put it in

Uh...most people with original high mileage engines are still driving them...not selling them.
177K and all original motor.

my original 1993 honda civic cx hatchback is still on the road today (my brother now owns it).

it has about 400,000 original miles on the engine, mainly due to my pampering the car for its first 130,000 miles.

I broke it in properly, drove like a sane person while i had it and changed the oil religiously.

to date, the only parts that have ever been replaced on the car has been a horn (lol), axle boots, speedometer meter (the original was faulty), and the distributer a few weeks ago.

the car is proof is that hondas will last forever if you take care of it.

as for my newly-purchased 98 Integra, that's a different story.

zoom. zoom... lol.

2nd owner, just past 123K... and still going strong.. though i need to figure a way to get a good tune for stop & go driving

I was talking to one of the salesman at my local honda dealership, and he said that somewhere in the states there was an Accord that the odometer actually reset there was that many mile on it, so it had more then a million miles on the original motor and the owner would not sell it, last i heard he was still driving it as a DD

Oh an Honda wanted to buy the car off of him, and he wouldn't, they offered him any car in their line up of his choice, and he said no

My 93 LX 4 door has 239,000 on it now. Head gasket was replaced around 100,000 - replaced the axles at 200,000 the driver side is going bad again. This is supposedly covered under the Cardone warranty. Knowing this I would of chosen to have a specialty shop rebuild the originals. Also the replacement was missing the damper? Driver side also vibrates under full throttle acceleration from a stop? Could this be because it doesn't a have a damper?

My auto transmission is still original. I'm planning on driving this car well beyond 500,000 miles. Since we don't wreck our cars, every 6.37 years, this is very possible. LOL!
