Speeding Ticket Help

On my ticket, it says I have to make a mandatory appearance in court to say whether I'm guilty or innocent. Can I do this by mail instead? They don't seem to list it as an option, but I've heard of people doing so.

Additionally, if I do a mail in challenge for the 2nd phase, where both the cop and I submit evidence, if I lose, will I be charged more than the ticket price?

- wuts the charge? if you are going to contest the ticket you need to go to court, if you're guilty just pay the ticket ahead of time at the clerk of courts, read the back of the ticket and you might be able to mail in the fine. If you challenge the ticket it shouldn't be any additional cost (court cost is usually already included).
I am not a lawyer ,do you need to call one?[:'(]

In Virginia you can only plead guilty by mail. If you want to plead not guilty and contest it, you must appear in court. The fine and costs would be the same amount whether you mail it in or go to court and end up losing.
