stuck on a header

okay so i have a cracked header, and i need to get a new one, i live in california, so i understand that i need to pass emissions and all of that. but

lets just say i didnt have to there are different kinds i have found, well obviously the different brands, but i mean buy the way the look

the stock one

megan racing

DC sport

ebay

as you can see, the stock exhaust manifold is short, its compared to the ebay one, then there is the megan racing which seems like a normal d series header
and same with the DC

alll of these are for a D17A1 engine....soo whats the deal? why am i so confused?

Stock one has the catalytic converter built in (the bulge at the bottom). That makes it an expensive part since its two parts in one. The next two are for an EX style system with the converter mounted under the car as a separate piece. Then the ebay one looks like it is intended to replace the DX unit but has no converter-- which is not street legal in any of the USA especially California.

^ What he said.

I'd recommend swapping to a full EX exhaust; EX header, OEM EX cat, and an EX cat-back. If I'm not mistaken, everything should bolt up (it does on the 6th gens) in the stock locations.

How many miles are on your car?

Any what year is it?

I ask because if it falls in a certain year and miles, Honda will replace it free.

hey splat, not to thread jack or nothin, but would they replace it for my 97 hatch? 17x,xxx miles

reaper2022 Jul 16, 2010 08:26 AM

Usually it's 100k miles, I'm not sure about how many years. But at any rate, it's highly unlikely.

oh, oh well then. i gotta convert to EX. still debating on 2nd vacation, lowering car and tune up, or valve adjustment, tune up, and re-tint window that broke. maybe even toss in a new windshield if i got enough left over lol. anyhow lol

@OP: if your trying to keep the cat on the manifold, check out magnaflow's exhaust manifold/cat combo.

49372 is the magnaflow oem part but it doesn't say that it is carb certified. they go for $458 all day online.
