swap or build
I have an 05 dx, with the d17a1, cold air, headers, catback, underdrive pulleys, and it sits with it's sohc pushing 144 whp (approx, havent checked in a long time). sadly I was told thats probably the limits of the little d17a1, which I dont want to believe, I've seen much worse go way farther
now in the end, I want to push between 300-400 whp, can you headswap and build up the d17a1 that far? and if so, how? or am I better off going for a full engine swap, and if so, which engine would go in easiest? all advice happily appreciated |
Have you considered forced induction?

+1 Macbeth... The most we got out of my buddies d17 with "all motor" was MAYBE 180 and that was pushing it IMO (it did that number ONCE is why i say pushing it lol).... as soon as we slapped a new cam, and turbo on that beautifully flowing head and such, she finally hit the mark for sure :D

I do remember seeing an article in Super Street about you engine making big power with a turbo. If you're willing to do some engine work to make sure it all holds together, I'd consider turbocharging it.

what all would I need to do? I've a friend with a pair of small turbos he's offering to sell for cheap, their from a '91 3000gt, but I've never turbo'd anything before so I'd need to know what do to turbo it, and if I'd be better off with a new t3/t4 hybrid with the ball bearing upgrade?
ingredients list? |
It would basically be an engine rebuild so you can strengthen internal components such as pistons, rods, and fuel system to handle the increased power/heat that a turbo engine produces. I'm sure you can find more info on it by doing a search on the web. GL

you can go the expensive way and swap a k in there
