Synthetic oil - Black - changed after 3700 miles????
back at the end of april 2007, i changed my oil in my 2000 ex coupe 5-speed with 79500 miles from conventional to synthetic oil.
2.5 months later now and 3700 miles later, after returning from a 2200 mile road trip, i decided to change it again and was shocked at how dark it was...... normally ny conventional oil changes did not produce oil of this color after 3000 miles.
i expected the synthetic to last up to 5k, but after seeing how dark it was, i felt i needed to change it....
any opinions?

dark oil does not mean its bad. its normal for oil to turn a dark brown to almost black color. but i would make sure to buy a good brand filter, fram sucks, so do regualr honda civic eom filters. but hamp and the s2000 filter are the best. but regardless of the filter or oil used i would always recommend changing oil at least every 3000 even if its synthetic. a6 packof synthetic oil every 3k is still cheaper than putting a new motor it ever will be
in the newer ones it should not be changed so soon , as i can get about 7000 miles out of an oil change. its a waste of money to change oil so much on modern cars. Honda does not recommend short oil changes anymore.
next time you check the oil rub some between your fingers and make sure its not getting too thick or have any strange smells. i use synthetic and it gets pretty dark. i change every 6000.. recommend mobil 1 oil and filter. works great for me.
well its only expensive if u pay somebody to change it. i change my oil my self since itnot tht hard tochange but anyways i too use synthetic oil and i change my oil every 3 weeks. why because my dad alwasy told me that on most hondas and toyota if u change the oil regularly the engine will last forever.
but i thik tht the filter has a lot to do with the oil being dirty really quick so i would recommend a diffeent filter my favorite is Mobile 1 but ths just my opinion,
