too trusting

my step daughter lives in ft. worth, tx. she drives my wifes 1996 civic. while visiting her on the fourth of july weekend i did my usual thing. get the oil changed, check tires, gas it up for her and of course the inspection was supposed to be renwed by the end of june so i took care of that also. i also replaced a tail light that had been broken somehow or another. the following weekend, guess what? it gets stolen. ten days later the police tell us it was found in a field stripped down to a shell. we were hoping that it was taken for a joyride and then left somewhere. oh well. if anyone hasent ever heard of key shaving i suggest you look it up. especially for 1990's civic and accord.any suggestions are greatly appreciated. i found that out of 20 thousand civics made in a year may only have a few thousand key combinations. meanig your key may very well fit into many other civics. it would also pay to get new lock and key for a car we have an 2002 civic and are considering what type of safety/security for it( alarm, club, gps tracking ). any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

thank you
