What year/trim/motor/ecu do you have?

honda-rookie Mar 23, 2012 06:41 PM

It's a 99 civic ex with a b16 with gsr head and gsr trans was told when I bought it has a p2p from an si

Well, you apparently need tuning. My suggestion is to convert to a P30, or P28 ecu, chip it, and get it tuned. The tuner can play with the vtec set-up.

Ok thanks

I put in a new thermo and its working great now just an idea I had it worked

Good luck with everything. I can't imagine how a tstat would delay the vtec engagement point since they are entirely different systems within the car. The only way a Tstat could possibly affect the engagement to my knowledge is if the Tstat is stuck open, not allowing the car to warm up.

I seriously recommend you getting the car tuned though.

I thought that until it was warmed up, into closed loop, and no DTCs, VTEC would be disabled. But that is with the stock software. You shouldn't be taking a cold engine up to 5 grand anyway.

I was told it wasn't getting warm enough I also got it tuned yesterday thanks

Ok well the motor not getting up to temp would disable vtec. /story.
