Is rear wheel drive better then fwd? My civic 97 ex is fwd...obviously, i guess like most peoples. But is it easy to change it to rwd?

I was disapointed with the answers I got when I googled "which it better?" when I googled this question.

So, fill me in please? Thanks

 

Changing to RWD is hard. I did a 90hatch V8 RWD swap. PITA.

As for which is better, it depends on the person you are asking. I enjoy both. I love RWD for messing around.

 

not easy at all. think about how rear wheel drive engines sit. they sit completely different. you would prolly need to fab the engine to sit the proper way and then find a workable transmission. and fab fab and more custom fab.

For RWD on a Civic most people just turn it into a mid-engine RWD Civic rather than making a driveshaft run from the engine bay to the rear axle area. There's not much room under your Civic for running much other than the exhaust pipe.

 

Well... in all reality if you were to do a RWD Conversion, you would just use the Civic as a "shell" at least thats how i would do it....

As for which is better, thats all application dependent...
FWD KICKS *** in the winter, because most of the vehicles Mass is above the drive tires, and in saying that you can see some of the benefits of having that right? overall "low HP" applications, i would say its the best... not necessarily for performance though...

RWD... well Fun XD great for drifting, better for high HP applications (im talking like... over i dont know.. lets say 500?) the downside being the engine is at the front of the car (i know, thats also dependent on the configuration of the car but W/E) so most of the vehicles mass is still on the front wheels, where the rear are the drive = Less Traction.

NOW! if you could find a Mid Mount AWD car, then were talkin XD

So, what if I just got an engine swap? Would the engine have to be rwd, AND i would have to get a new transmition? Sorry, you might have to break down the more complicated words to plain non-engine-specialist english for me lol.

I just want to tune my car to the extreme with the next couple of years I have it... and I feel I need to make it rwd for higher performance tuning. So might as well be one of the first things I do, right?

 

For the amount of money you would have to put into doing the conversion, you could buy a few nice RWD cars...

 

so...the price of doing a engine swap is over the price of just getting a diffrent rwd car?

Would it cost both for the engine swap, AND for a conversion of fwd to rwd? Or would the engine swap cover that?

 

I dont think your understanding how much custom work is needed here. your better off buying a 240sx or something
