what CAUSES honda rust?
I know, I know, there are a million threads on rust in this forum, but I couldn't find any that explain WHY all civics want to rust out at the rear wheel wells.
My 95 hatch is getting a serious make-over and I'd like to fix whatever design flaw causes the rust so I don't have to do this again.

and i heard from a person in the vervice department at a honda dealer that the hondas with sunroofs add to the rust. due to the water build up there are hoses that catch the water that pools up around the seals for the sunroof and those hoses go right by there the rust is and in turn condensation is found on the outside and builds up on the inside of the trunk and turns that bare metal to rust

well I guess I'll be thinking of the gass milage savings during the hours of cutting/sanding/undercoating/welding/painting
course I can't really knock the design even WITH the rust. This EG hatch is even more fun to drive than my EK hatch.

and another thing to consider is that there is this strip that goes all the way around the wheel well and will trap dirt and water(moisture) in that spot. I know that i have a tiny tiny sp ot of rust in the middle of the left rear( looking at the engine from outside ) fender well.

I have a 95 ESi. My rear left fender starts to have rush also. Its already 11 years old and I do expect it. But it's only on that portion too. I don't know why.

i don't have any rust on my car in the fender wells, but my ef hatch was horrible. it looked like someone was chewing on it. also, that rubber lining on the fender does cause most of it , so if you have it, get rid of it

Salt just speeds it up. But any wet, humid climate is tough on cars. Having a 68 stang that was dubbed the "RUSTANG" in south florida I was used to rusted buckets. When I was stationed in 29palms Cali, I went to a junk yard in the desert and it was the most amazing thing Id ever seen. Cars from the 50s and 60s with no rust. An unbelievable site for a resto nut.
