Is it worth putting money in the engine?

I have a 98 civic hx, i was wondering if it's worth investing money in the engine? I feel like it doesn't move like I would like. It's also automatic :( but the engine has been good to me? It's got like + 180,000 miles??? Oh and a rebuilt tranny.

its an automatic honda civic basic boltons like intake, header, exhaust won't give you any real hp gains so unless your planning on spending thousands of dollars i would just leave it alone and enjoy what it is an economy car.

What would be the not so expensive way to give the car some kick so when I pull in to the highway I don't have to look in the rearview mirror hoping that they ate not cusing me out because I'm making the person behind me slow down

Tate the skunk products any good? Like you said headers, intake manifold, body throttle, and exhaust?

no skunk2 is not that great for quality if you did decide to get bolt on i would get AEM intake DC header.

You need to tell us what you think is "expensive" or what your budget is. As the other guy said, it will take a lot of work to make a D series fast without boosting.

Also your Auto tranmission will fail shortly adding extra power.

Bolt ons like intake exhaust header do pretty much nothing. Maybe 10hp tops (at like 7k rpms) you will gain for the $1000+ you will spend on the parts.

Well I was thinking more like you 1,000 maybe more it all depends if I have to drop it all at once. Im not trying to race it but I want it to pick up quicker.I still want fuel efficiency because is my daily but like I said I just want cater pick up

Do check your basic tune-up stuff particularly the spark timing.

The HX was never intended to go fast. It's optimized for mpg. Completely swapping out the engine and transmission package would probably be necessary for any real gain.

If I do decide to start doing any thing like bolt on, would it be compatible with a better engine when I'm ready for that change? Wich engine would be best for my 98 as far as mpg and power?Thanx

No, not likely.

You need to tell us what you want power-wise, and how much money you have to spend.
