Funtingtons 89si hatch build.

Well I figure that since the swap is in, and got all the classic ricer bolt ons, it must be time for a build thread. Excuse me for a 100% lack of photos! I never really have been an internet/forum attendee, but lately have wanted to document my progress, especially since I feel like the car has come leaps and bounds from when I bought it.

I own an DSLR d5000 from here on out you can expect no more cell phone pics from me I plan to document my build very intensively.

This is the only picture I have of when I got it. Had a front and back body kit bumper, held on by two wood screws each, the interior smelled like a homeless sex party, and the motor had been driven to asshole. On top of that the body was littered with dents most noticably in the hood. The wheels were mis matched, although it came with 4 momo 15's. of course they were bent beyond drivablity. The car drove home, but almost had me in a ditch multiple times it floated across the road where ever it wanted.

Got a free front bumper off a honda of some sort haha, changed the oil. Flushed the trann...whats this? GAPING HOLE IN THE TRANNY CASING. sealed with gum like substance?... Ys1 here I come.

anywho before tranny, and all here is how it sat hoodless, with some BMW wheels that are almost perfectley fitted. Actually looks pretty HOOD in my opinion.

anywho...more update photos tomorrow, for now I will leave a list of things I have done, and htings to do.

Rework the ECU fix the rats nest of wires
get blinkers working fix running lights
new wheel bearings
new control arms
new ball joints
auto cross alignment
CAI
Header
front and rear bumpers
make a harness/pillar bar

WANT.
go way lower
diamond racing rims 8-9 wide 13's
get front end looking straight

sounds like you've come a long way man. these classic civics are getting pretty old and most of the builds tend to be alot of restoration. Hell, mines only 10 years old and I've been doing alot of basic mainenance stuff just to get it out of the way.

good work and keep us posted on your progress.

could not agree with you more, especially when some punk ass kid gets a hold of one...I myself am a teenager, and not trying to sound arrogant here man, but some kids need to learn not to be street racing queers. I little fun here and there is fun, but when I see kids who bought a swapped civic tearing through at 7k RPM around town, I can't help but think "what a waste of a car."

Shandles 02-14-2011 07:43 AM

yeah, I'm 24 but I bought my civic off of a highschooler. it was a really stupid mistake on my part, but I had to get a car in a hurry. I'm pretty sure it was in a wreck at some point. on the drive home the power steering went out. I replaced the pump, but the rack and pinion is leaking and will probably have to be replaced. The wheels aren't the right offset (I think) and they rub on the inside wheel well a little bit. One of the coilovers is missing a piece, so I couldn't get it aligned.... I ended up just getting new springs and shocks to replace the no name, worn out coilovers that are on there. Once I get my hands on a new cluster, I'll finally be able to get that huge tachometer out of there....

its a work in progress. Sometimes I wish I had just waited for a little while longer for a nice stock one to pop up in a dealership somewhere. but the past is 40/40 or whatever they say. haha

posted photo of cockpit and the harness bar I fabricated

Scott53092 02-14-2011 04:07 PM

Made the harness bar yourself? Eek, how good are your fabricating/welding skills? FGrom a safety stand point I wouldn't trust myself to make one and I'd consider myself a pretty good welder.

I did the measuring and built brackets, and had a certified TIG? welder do the welds for me. it's sturdy as ****.
I tryed to weld one myself...welds looked un safe, and although had him watch over I just was not confident enough to run it.

Thank you kind sir, honestly was not expecting any sort of welcome! I am going to try and get it as STOCK as possible!! Although I admit I am guilty of liking a few ricey things...

Stock with a drop and a few things like a good set of wheels really makes a civic look clean no matter what. And trust me so did I when I first got a Honda, but you as I did will quickly learn why rice is awful.

Well I hope all of us here can change your mind about cans.

WellFedHobo 02-15-2011 09:38 AM

Mount an Apex-i WS2 sideways and you're good to go.

(Or get a 3rd gen Civic. Those have sideways mufflers stock.)

I think cans can have the steeze. especially when someone see's it, and wants to play around! see the can, but not what is under the hood. Not be fast and furious, but...

Meh. I used to be the same way. I had a 98 Civic coupe before my current 99 Coupe and i installed a Megan Racing Drift Spec (slanted fart cannon). Within 4 months, it sounded like crap, and I was pulled over by a local cop for noise. Installed the silencer, within the next 5 months, it sounded like crap again just as before.

KingDakota12 02-15-2011 10:35 AM

Yes, but whats under the hood is more important. Or how about having a well built engine and an exhaust :)

That's an OK amount of power, but boost would be best!

to much money.
I don't know, as is, as long as I can get power to the wheels and not miss shifts, most people cannot hang around where I live. and I also want to have a set up for cornering more so than speed!!

Scott53092 02-15-2011 04:42 PM

Honestly king you are saying that hopefully we can change him over, who cares if that's what he likes. There's nothing wrong with him liking that stuff, there's two sides of the spectrum. Who really cares if he wants a loud exhaust, it is his car. I'm not trying to be a dick I'm just saying it is his car, his choice. If he wants to be "ricey" so be it, you know how many people say sh!t about the whole "jdm" scene, it is just like the "ricer" phase. And with it being what under the hood that counts... bs... I'd personaly rather have a good looking car than a beater that is fast. Sure I don't mind having speed and winning a race, but when it comes down to it, I could care less if I win a race on the street, doesn't prove much.

Agreed, I just always give the "rice" speech to noobies because that's how I was accepted here when I first came along saying the same things and with some help and advice from many on here I turned it all around and went clean on everything and still am. of course I don't mind what he does to his car, it's his vehicle and he does what he wants I know and respect that.

And bud if you want cornering speed that means suspension :)

HUGE GIANT UPDATE!!!*****

I had a friend he bought a 90 integra...it was CLEAN. STRAIGHT BODIED B18 SWAPPED. okay it did not run needed new throttle body, and 02 wiring. we fixed it, but now it is broken again. the motor aspect of this car is sketchy held in by 2 mounts and stuff... but... he said it is not worth it to him, and is letting me take the car FOR FREE. on WED I pick it up. has coilovers intake exhaust motor sway bars camber kit...thing has a bunch of goodies I can swap into my car. I am very exited, get ready I will have updated photos of my car scraping frame on friday:)

Funtington 02-17-2011 08:45 PM

Got that integra home. got it to start but seems to be mis-firing.

got a black bumper that matches my car, but something WILL NOT LINE UP. I will post n00dz tomorrow.

Funtington 03-10-2011 10:29 AM

got the integra running strong.

got bielstien struts and springs for the civic, and getting it looking clean/stock again pics after I get it painted

Funtington 03-27-2011 11:12 PM

just layed down primer today, got new headlights bumper and strip above, also got some steelies with 3 inch chrome lips.

WellFedHobo 03-28-2011 06:56 AM

Gotta post some pics of the progress, lol. What was the final color gonna be?

Shandles 03-28-2011 07:26 AM

are you rattle canning it or do you have a compressor?

POST PICS!!

Funtington 03-29-2011 09:20 AM

I WILL let the pictures do the talking!! hold me to that.

Yes I have painted a hatch before I am using a gun and compressor set up atomizer the whole nine yards. although I have lost my paint booth so I am doing this outside which calls for tons of sanding and waiting for sun as its been 30 degrees here to cold to paint.

final color is going to be a silver, with the new deep steelies and new front end when I get corner lights and assembled expect a HUGE difference. Thanks for looking guys I promise on the pictures.

http://i51.tinypic.com/6patxe.jpg

some low qaulity teasers. My new wheels look astounding in person(IMHO)
offset is perfect nice and wide with some nice dish to them(IMHO) Going to have to go lower to have it sitting how I want it. I'm on race bilstein struts and springs, older models, will probaly cut off a coil up front and back, or use my old setup in the back...

paint is going on tomorrow.

thats all thanks to anyone who is looking

Shandles 03-29-2011 05:27 PM

don't hack the springs. its dangerous and gives you a ****ty ride. we're all on a tight budget, but do it right or you'll regret it later.

I have cut springs on all my cars, rides fine. dis agree on the danger aspect as well. Cutting springs is not bad, sounds like you have never done it or you would not think it so bad.
