84 CRX lack of RPM

I have a stock 84 CRX 1.5/5 speed-just passed smog in Calif after replacing the carb and distributor. I then drove the car to the Dallas ft worth area-and averaged between 33.5 and 35.6 mpg at 65mph. The problem is, the car won't go over 65 mph. With the car in nuetral, I can floor the accelerator pedal and the rpms will not go over 4,000-then starts falling below to 3,000 rpm. The original carb(I still have) had a major hesitation off idle. The shop that replaced it for me adjusted the valves, replaced a couple of sensors, vacuum hoses, and the distributor(it wasn't getting any vacuum advance), and adjusted the timing. I had all this and the smog test done to the car while I was out of the state, so I didn't get a chance to drive it before leaving Calif for Texas. If I give the car only slight throttle, it seems to respond a little better. Today I replaced the fuel pump and filter, just in case that was the problem--it was not! Any thought that the Catalytic converter(s) might be bad, even though it just passed smog in Calif? Thanks for the help!

RE:HELP!! 84 CRX lack of RPM

Probably isn't anyone on this earth that keeps a CRX stock!! But the limited RPM problem has to be something someone can help with!? Any suggestions as to a trustworthy shop that might be able to correct the problem somewhere in the Dallas or surrounding areas? Thanks!

RE: RE:HELP!! 84 CRX lack of RPM

its probably just the engine crapping out in general. quite frankly im suprised it lasted this long. hondas really werent all that reliable or great cars at all until the 4th generation. i know a woman (my old econ teacher actually) who had an 86 civic and it gave her the biggest problems teh entire time she had it, and eventually she walked out of her apartment to find that it caught fire and burned up in the night.
