Default Air Filter

Is it true that the bigger your air filter, the more power it loses? Mine is just behind the grill but it's about a foot long. Not very many of my friends have these so i was just wondering. When i bought my car it came like that so i dont know to replace it or not

i know if your air filter is too small it is a big restriction so you lose power. a guy i know had a 502ci chevy he lost about 20 hp with a smaller air filter to clear the hood of his car. later he cut the hood. so i don't see how a big filter would lose horsepower

Do you have a photo of your set up? Is the actual filter in the grill or is it a metal type filter like an intercooler? The metal (aluminum) ones you can only wash those off in place. Buy some "BUG BE GONE". Spray it on and wait 5 minutes and spray off with the hose. That's the way to clean it. Hopefully you have some sort of mesh gril to protect the intercooler.

My K&N filter's in the air box, but a flex hose is facing to the front of the grill, much like a RAM air set up. I've heard that the longer the intake inlet from tip to end, the harder it works to get the air to the engine. It's best to have the shortest distance from inlet to engine, but you want the coldest air possible. It's impossible to have both without cutting a hole in the hood. With my set up, the timing and exceleration is much better than the stock set up by far.
