Default AKIMOTO 70860 Yellow intake.

I found an Akimoto 70860 yellow intake for a 92-95 Civic 1.6L for $125 shipped and got it. I put it on my 95 and it made it sound a whole lot faster! LOL... intakes may not actually make it faster, but the new sound coupled with the aftermarket exhuast makes flks turn to see whats coming when its HAMMER TIME! It feels faster, but as many of you say, it may all be in my head. Nice intake for the money, I had to slightly bend the bracket to fit to the band clamp where it stabilizes the filter's weight, but total install time was about 10 minuts. I'll post pictures in a few, I have to get them from my camera.

OK, the lack of any replies is scaring me. Is this intake considered taboo or junk? Did I do bad with this? Everything seems good to go, no check engine light, no issues at all. I expected a "hell yea!" from someone!

well MOST people here would call it rice. for 2 reasons. one the red header heat shield. and two the yellow.
thats basically a cheap ebay air intake and nothing more could have got it for 30bucks.
IMO i would replace the yellow hoses and joints with black ones which you can buy at any hardware store.

and the faster feeling is all in your head.... only difference is your hitting the gas harder to hear that sound, been there done that. its called the false buttdyno.

I thought the $125 was a kill deal compared to all the $200+ intakes that are nearly identicle! The yellow hose means nothing to me, it is what was available cheap.

As for the red engine paint on the heat shield, I was removing the manifold to weld a crack in it and decided to knock the rust off the shield and paint it with what I had....Chevy Orange! That will slow down the progress of the corrosion. I was not about to spend $5 on a can of paint for my $300 car. I've done plenty of spending money on required parts to make it pass inspection and run/stop reliably.

OK, so its rice and ugly and was not a good deal. Oh well. I tried

kinda ya.... but yet you say your not gonna spend 5bucks for paint for a 300dollar car but you spent 125 for a intake.... that doesnt make to much sense.

most people on this site just buy a ebay intake dirt cheap and then buy a good air filter like a AEM DRYFLOW filter or another good quality air filter.
the only thing about the cheaper air intakes is the filters really suck and most will just fall apart over time or rust and look really bad and then fall apart.LOL
been there done that bought a aem dryflow filter.

I kinda consider AEM to be trashy. They have sloppy fit and the filters are the only thing they have going for them. OVerall, AFE is much....much better than AFE for style, looks, fit and finish. And AFE has the best filters on the market with the Pro-Gaurd 7. I kinda fig that Akimoto, KN, AEM are all about the same, bottom barrel sludge scrapers....but KN and AEM are way more than $100 bill.

I've installed AEM's on a few trucks (Diesels) and nevr liked the fitment.
