Which is Better??

Hey guys i have a 99 civic ex and was wondering if a short tube intake is better than the longer one. Differences...Pros...cons??
Thanks.

RE: Which is Better??

a short tube is formally known as a "short ram intake"

sri take in warmer air since they are located in the engine bay but when you press down on the pedal and open the throttle, you'll get a faster response from the intake

the longer intakes, "cold air intakes," gather air from outside the engine bay (it will most likely be installed in the wheel well behind the bumper) so as the name suggests, the intake brings in cool air. since the tube is longer however, the response time will be longer by a little.

I have a 99 EX too, just got it =)
It came equiped with a short ram intake and i'm pretty happy with it.

PRO: Strong take off, feels like your actually driving a car, not some sh*tbox
CON: Long haul/hwy driving can become tiresome as power does not last - the shorter air intake can only inject so much air at higher speeds. In this case, I have to rev my lower gears to build enough power to drive at the hwy speed/gear i want. (i wonder if this makes any sense..)

I'm happy with the short ram since i don't do a lot of hwy driving but i'd like to try the cold air intake in the near future.
If you want "fun factor" over speed, i'd say go with the short ram intake.
But if you want a balance of both fun & speed, i think the cold maybe ideal.

according to AEM and their R&D crew, their v2 design surpasses the AEM cold air intake AND their short ram as well so you might consider getting one of those instead of a SRI or CAI.

(btw, the AEM v2 is more like a sri)
