Bore-Out TB

Just wondering, if i take my Dremel and bore out my stock TB a lil bit, do you think it will make any difference in gains of ANY sort? This question can prob be found in search but im at a library so i only have limited time to use the net. Stock its 55, i wonder what i can get it up to before cracking the walls ;)

Thanks

_Dan

if you bore it out then you will need a bigger butterfly... so its not worth it.

boring it out with a dremel tool is a really bad idea because you will not have a perfectly round hole anymore, and besides, it would probably take a while to get all that metal out of there.

if you don't have access to a machine shop (or have a buddy that does) then you should definitly consider getting an aftermarket throttle body in the size you want.

That raises another question of mine. What size is the inlet of my IM? I know that my TB is 56mm. Does that mean my inlet is too? Would just bolting a bigger throttle body, like say a GSR, do anything or would it run into a bottleneck when it hit the IM?

I called my local machine shop and they said they would only charge me like 75 bucks to bore my IM and TB out to 62mm. Not bad since I don't have a Skunk2 platinum card. I know I would need a new butterfly. Can you buy just buy a new butterfly? I have also heard of boring the TB out from 56(stock) at the butterfly and then bigger toward the inlet, kinda like a funnel, but I guess that would negate the bigger IM, huh?

By the way, my car is quickly becoming a member of team E-bay. I'm such a loser.

if you bore it out, you should also get it polished

depending on how your butterfly is made, it may be as simple as having the shop cut out a new piece of metal a tiny bit smaller than your TB bore (.001"-.003" smaller should be more than enough) and have them drill the precision holes in the center so you can screw it on where the old butterfly was.

while your at it, see if you can get the ports on the cylinder side ported to match your head. i think you can get the inside of the IM polished as well, but of course, they will charge more for all this.

sounds like u are going to be investing more time, energy and money into this than you realize or want. you already shop on ebay. i saw a new high flow holley throttle body shipped for 186.00. sounds like the way to go in the end. save you some time and probably cost the same or less in the end.

yeah in the end its better to just replace it than bore it out.
