when i got my car it was straight piped it sounds pretty good but it is to raspy and crackely and back fires some time . if i ad a high flow cat will this stop that and i still have the factory resignator.

Yeah you def should get a resonator, I recommend magnaflow. Also if your getting backfiring check your spark plugs and buy the kind it says in the manual. I had platinums and was getting crazy backfiring... A high flow cat might help but it will make it even louder.

if by straight pipe you mean test pipe, then the cat will make it quieter. Straight pipes would imply that you have no muffler.

^ right, yeah it wont be louder than haveing no cat at all. But it will still be a little raspy unless you have a stock cat.

exhaust shops use a special cutting tool that i'm sure you could get somewhere. You could use a hacksaw though. It'd be easier with the exhaust off of the car.
