changing exaust w/o changing intake?

Hey, I bought a civic about a year ago with a custom intake and exaust. As much as I like hearing the engine at times, the loud muffler really isn't me. I'm planning on changing it but I'd like to not have to change the intake aswell. If I only change the muffler to a smaller one but leave the intake, will that hurt my car? Is there a middle ground? For instance a regular muffler that's just a little larger in diameter than normal? If anyone has any info on this, that'd be great! Also, if anyone wants to upgrage their muffler, I'll trade with them. Whatever I have is actually pretty nice. It doesn't really sound like a ricer muffler, it's deaper than that. Thanks for your help.

The exhaust has nothing to do with your intake. Its like saying getting different tires will affect your stereo.

So it doesn't matter than I'm taking in more air but have a smaller exit? I thought that might have an effect on things.

Yeah it will have an effect on horsepower but that's about it. You might lose 1 or 2 hp.
