Check Engine Light
I just installed an intake using an cone air filter and my check engine light just came on. Does it have something to do with the intake? I've driven it for about a day before the light popped on. How do I get rid of the light?

RE: Check Engine Light
what year is your car? if its 96 and up take it to a checker or auto zone and they can scan it and tell you what the code is for

RE: Check Engine Light
did you remmeber to put the sencor in the intake?
|
RE: Check Engine Light
On the intake pipe there was a plug for the tube and on the other side there was a hole. I plugged the tube from the pipe to the engine head and the hole I tried to put in some kind of plug that I pulled off the stock air box but the plug would not fit into the hole on the side of the pipe. I'm assuming this plug is the o2 sensor?

RE: Check Engine Light

RE: Check Engine Light
Its a cheapo from ebay. here is the link....you can see on one side of the pipe is the long hole for the blue tube and on the other side opposite that is a hole the size of my thumb.

RE: Check Engine Light
Yeah, plug that sucker in there, and reset the ecu by taking off the negative battery terminal for a couple mins. If your still getting a CEL pull the code. If you've got a 6th gen, I just got a brand spankin new DIY up on how to pull a CEL, complete with videos for your enjoyment!

ORIGINAL: baldie Its a cheapo from ebay. here is the link.... No Installation Instruction Provided easy to install, you can do it by all yourself If the sensor didn't fit in the hole, where is the sensor now? |
RE: Check Engine Light
well problem is the plug will not fit to the point to where it will stay. Do I need to tape it or something?
|
RE: Check Engine Light
ghahaha...I feel like an idiot. The sensor is still there but it might just be hanging, not in the tube.
|
RE: Check Engine Light
do you have any pictures?
|
RE: Check Engine Light
no pics right now. I won't be able to get pics until friday because the car belongs to my gf and I won't see her till friday. She called me though telling me that her SRS light came on and the check engine light came on and I'm assuming the check engine lights is because of the intake.

RE: Check Engine Light
So is the hole too small or too big? if it's too big, you're probably missing a rubber grommet. I have a different car and intake, but you can kinda see it here:

RE: Check Engine Light
The hole is to small. Only half of the sensor will go in. The intake didn't come with a rubber piece to hold the sensor in. looking at your pic, thats exactly what my issue is.
|
RE: Check Engine Light
Alright, cool. The hole's probably just the right size, most of the sensor sticks out of the tube. :)
|
RE: Check Engine Light
but if it just falls out, they we have a problem. and taping is not a good answer.
|
RE: Check Engine Light
Yeah. If he gets the rubber grommet, it will be just fine.
|
RE: Check Engine Light
There's just a little ridge on the sensor that you have to get through the grommet. That'll keep it from falling out.

RE: Check Engine Light
Lots of people say to clear the code by disconnecting the battery terminal. This is a good idea if you have no other option and no access to a scan tool. A better way to do this is to get a scan tool and clear the code(s). Your car has readiness monitors, when you take the batt cable off, the readiness monitors go away. The readiness monitors will not go away if you clear the code with a scan tool. Readiness monitors are important because when you go for emissions, the emissions people will not pass you unless all the readiness monitors have been completed. Some of the readiness monitors have really strict criteria, and you might not drive the way you have to every day to set the readiness monitors.

RE: Check Engine Light
Where can I get a grommet for the sensor??
The fact that the sensor isn't connected, is this the reason for my check engine light coming on? I'm hoping so because I know its an easy fix. My light never came on until the day after i installed the intake so I'm assuming. My SRS light also came on about 2 days ago but prior to the intake installation. |
RE: Check Engine Light
ANyone knwo where I can get a grommet?
