Check engine light from new catalytic converter. Please Help

I put a OBD1 catalytic converter(catalytic converter for 95 and earlier civic's) into my 1996 civic which is OBD2. It passed smog but now my check engine light is on how can I get it to go off.

Thanks,
Willie.

you answered your own question.

you put an OBD1 cat onto an OBD2 car. the car's engine management sees there's something not up to OBD2 standards and now it's setting off the check engine light...

Cats are pretty universal as far as I know, but your problem may be the lack of the 2nd o2 sensor. What's the code?
