Default Cleaning a K&N Filter

I don't know if it's the whole dryflow thing or not, but it's not an entire intake system, just a drop in K&N and I haven't cleaned it in a while. I'm sure I don't have to go out and buy a whole cleaning kit. I just wanted to double check that putting it in water and letting it dry wouldn't harm it.

Thanks.

P.S. I did use the search function but I'm just making sure soI don't mess anything up.

i have k&n filters on my all my cars & truck , i clean them with the cleaning kit
it tells you on the directions "never use compressed air "to dry it ,it can rip the element, i just let it air dry

Actually, you SHOULD buy the kit... it's not that expensive, and it will last for a very long time.

Why pay $50+ for a new one when you can pay no more than $15 for the cleaning kit.
