Cold Air Intake
ngoti8tor....i have seen them at Canadian tire before, there made by apc or ractive or somthing like that and there not sopposed to block the air but stop water, iv never seen anyone with them ether so i guess there not a big hit
oh ok. just a plastic cover that goes around the filter? yeah, i doubt they do much. and you dont need to worry about water getting into your engine unless you go througgh a puddle and it puts the whole filter under. if its just some spray on the filter, it wont hurt it. actually, its kinda good to get a little spray in there every now and then. water breaks up carbon deposits in your engine. and POLO708 has a setup that injects a mist of water into the intake to cool the temps from his SC. its only when you get enough water in there that the piston moving up doesnt have enough air to compress (water doesnt compress) and the excess pressure can blow the side of the block out. or bend Con-Rods.
if you're really THAT worried about hydro lock then get the original AEM CAI. you can buy a water bypass valve that (when water gets into the filter) it'll 'bypass' the air intake to another part of the pipe. some group of guys did a test on it when it first came out. they submerged the entire filter in a 10 gallon fish tank and didnt get any water in the engine.
I got a K & N CAI for my 2002 Civic EX sedan and it came with a cover for the filter. Made of fine material like silk screen. Tried with or without and couldn't tell a difference. Easy to take off but you have to lift the car and put it back on from underneath. So I leave it on. Repels water good. Got it for $230.00.

short ram is a shorter pipe that draws air from the engine bay. depending on the CAI...it will draw from the wheel well or behind the front bumper. advantages of each:

the CAI will increce your gas mileage, help your engine run cooler, and give you more HP. on the other end of it, the Ram intake is cheaper, gives you more of a torque gain, and is easier to install. i guess its up to prefrence
