cold air intake-hydrolock?
 

I just bought a AEM cold air intake for my 01 Civic LX, which is otherwise stock (looking to beef it up in the next few months) Someone told me that i shouldnt put it in because of the water that my engine would take in and that it could cause hydrolock. Help?

haha, no, i live in the city, puddle size would be limited to an inch or two

hydrolock happens.

a downpour hits, flooding at the bottom of hilly roads or streets occur and then you make a big splash.

doods in acuraworld.com and team-integra.net post about their hydrolock problems all the time.

if your area is prone to heavy rains or flooding, then think twice.

^^^^ i have driven through very heavy thunderstorms where i couldn't see the car in front of me with no problems at all. i have a V2 and have never had any problems, even through puddles of standing water.

I live in a a place where it always rains, and although i have been through some deep puddles my car is fine, just know your limit and if it looks very deep dont cross it, go around. I try to avoid as many as i can but there has been times i almost hydrolocked but thats because i live in a place where we get the 2nd most rain in the usa. just be smart!

if you do a CAI be sure to at least install a bypass valve on it. trust me, i didn't think i needed one and i went thru a puddle and the car stopped. well turns out the puddle was too deep and sucked in 1.5 liters of water. bent a rod and needed a new engine. and this is in an area where i could walk thru the puddles and not get my feet wet. so just be careful and take simple precautions. good luck man
