i know my muffler was 50 bucks to weld on and then later i had piping ran from the header back and it was just shy of a 100 bucks for 2.5in so i spent probably close to 150 bucks on that set up...

But muffler shops (unless they are a particularly large successfull one) don't have mandrel benders, so you are getting the crushed bends of a traditional hydraulic pipe bender when you're getting a muffler shop exhaust.

You can get mandrel bends on ebay for $10 a piece. 45* and 90*. Just trim them and place them where necessary, then weld and voila. That's how I did the 5" exhaust on the truck I used to have.

I had a local muffler shop weld a pipe, muffler, and end pipe together for really cheap, I think $20. I provided the alignment markings. If you do this, you not only have to give the angle of the pipe in the muffler but also the depth of the pipe.

Mine was a little over $100 for piping and labor. Pretty cheap. And I really wouldn't worry about getting mandrel bends unless you really feel it necessary. It's better yes, but chances are you wouldn't notice a difference on your car.
