Cross Compatibility?

O.k. I have have a 1996 Civic LX. I want a little more power but it would appear that options are pretty scarce. So My question is: short of a complete head swap will any of the parts from the D16Y8 fit onto the D16Y7? Or are there any parts from other engines in the Honda family that I can stick on there?

the intake manifold and throttle body will fit up to your y7 and is also side mounted which is nice if you are gonna turbo down the road

very cool, is it any better or is the power difference due only to the addition of vtec? What about the exhaust?

Addition of vtec? Vtec is an action of the cam and has nothing to do with the throttle body or intake manifold. The intake manifold and throttle body give you more power because they give more air to the engine, thus allowing the engine to add more fuel.

Air+fuel=power

I understand how vtec works, I was trying to see if the difference in power between the Y7 and Y8 all because of the head and vtec or are other parts better. i.e. the intake manifold and throttle body better than on the Y7 the Y7 has 106hp, the Y8 I believe has around 128hp or so.

Head design has a huge effect on the performance of a motor.

do a search for "mini-me", that's what you're looking for.

RE: Cross Compatibility?

I am somewhat familiar with the mini-me swap. Swapping the vtec head onto the engine, but I lack both the money, expertise, and time to go through the whole swap unless there is someone in the St. Louis area willing to help, so I have to make due with intake, exhaust, ecu's, and stuff like that, bolt-ons are good. I know I'm not good enough to rip apart the engine. Its my girlfriends car in all reality so there is that to consider as well.
