D series header swap
I know pretty much everyting for the D series are interchangable and i plan on doing a mini me swap for my Y7 but would it be worth while to throw a Y8 or Z6 header on my car? Are they better for performance or won't it make a difference at all?

RE: D series header swap
I'd probably go with a Y8... I don't know about actual performance differences, but I'd think that the Y8, being newer (than a Z6), would provide better performance.... why don't you just go with anaftermarket header?

RE: D series header swap
I was planning on going with an aftermarket one but im doing a mini me and i figured why not just throw the y8 or z6 while im at it if it would give a lil power. I wasnt sure if the headers would make a difference as the intake manifold swaps do.

RE: D series header swap
power difference definately. You have a DX so you may or may not have noticed that the catalytic converter is right in the exhaust manifold (header). When buying a header, it will nto come with a cat on it, therefore not only are you putting a header on your car, you are also de-catting it. You will want to buy a high-flow cat and have it welded in somewhere in your exhaust system. That way you still stay emissions legal but have the new header.

RE: D series header swap
so if i can find a good condition y8 or z6header should i get that and a hi-flow cat? Would there be a decent power gain compared to if i bought an aftermarket one?

RE: D series header swap
A high-flow cat is an aftermarket cat man. Yeah get the Z6/Y8 header and then get the cat welded into your exhaust somewhere (or get a cat that botls right up to the header and get a catback exhaust for a z6/y8 and you will have youreslf an entire new exhaust system :))

RE: D series header swap
i know a hi flow cat is aftermarket i just couldnt understand what you were telling me i should do with the cat. Ijust bought a 93 Si Z6 header so shouldi just look for a cat that will fit with that, thendo i need to order exhaust that will fit a 92-95 Si?

RE: D series header swap
if you want to keep a cat, order a cat for a z6/y8 and then buy an exhaust for a 92-95 SI. They should line up perfectly.

RE: D series header swap
k thanx for the help. I got one more question, if i dont get a catback right now and just get the z6 header wtih a cat that will bolt onto that will i be able to keep my exhaust i have on there right now (Its just the stock exhaust but it was redone about 2 years ago)

RE: D series header swap
well yes you can, but to keep a catalytic converter you will have to have it welded somewhere in your exhaust system. With the exhaust you have right now, it bolts right up to the header itself so theres no room for a cat. Just order a cat and have teh flanges cut off each end then have it welded into the exhaust and you will be good to go.
