Default DC Sports header + o2 sensor = Check engine light

Just put in a dc sports header on a d16y8 and was wondering if anyone else as had or heard of problems when relocating the o2 sensor.
I keep getting the check engine light and the code comes up with an o2 sensor as being the problem. Anyone know what the problem might be? I had to extend the wiring since the original position of the o2 sensor was close to the front of the stock header and the DC sports header has it on the bottom towards the end (close to cat). The wires were soldered together when extending the o2 sensor and everything was taped up and heat shrinked.

Could the o2 sensor be bad? Would relocating the o2 sensor farther down the header prompt the check engine light? Would an exhaust leak between the header and CAT (or rest of piping) trigger the engine light?

Kind of stuck on what to do. Any advice would be great.

Keep in mind that this car has to pass smog testing in California. Would a o2 simulator be able to pass smog testing? Any adverse effects on the car longterm?

I know i am just new here but when you re-soldered the sensor and everything did you disconnect the battery before or after to give the ecu and everything a chance to reset ?

Yeah, try resetting the ecu first, if you still get the CEL, chances are you got the wires mixed up. Go back a double and triple check that you have the correct wires to their corresponding wires. Follow one wire from the harness to the o2 sensor and make sure it is the same. I can almost gurantee that's the problem.

The DC headers don't actually have a "cat" it's just a test pipe, I had this problem with my D17A2, put a high-flo cat on and problem solved.

Battery was disconnected when the wiring and header was installed. I have since reset it once after reading the code ( o2 sensor). After start up the light will come on. This is on a 1998 honda civic ex (d16y8 w/ 113k miles) with only one cat after the header. In stock form, one o2 sensor is located at the front of the header and the second o2 sensor is located in the CAT. The DC header that i have installed is a one piece ceramic with the o2 location close to the end of the header piping, close to where it bolts to the CAT. I purchased it used and have since learned that DC supplies a wire extension for the header to relocate the o2 sensor which i did not recieve.

I'm hoping that its just the o2 sensor that went bad since its the original and I've been told that they can go bad at around 100K miles and that they a bit fragile and may have been damaged from removal from the stock manifold. Going to check the wiring again, but i may just end up replacing it in hopes that it may have just gone bad. The stock header is no longer an option since it had a nice crack along one of the runners. [&:]

Thanks for the help everyone. Anyone else had any similar problems with a header install? was it resolved?

It is not the sensor if you did not recieve this code before you installed the headers. My god ppl extending and soldering and modifying sensor wirings. come on ppl. Have a ilittle commn sense. WHat has happened is you havenot allowed enough wire for the full current to run throught the wire b/c withthe original wire you have existing wires. b/c you canged the sensor wire and put new wires it is not recieveng enough current it is reading the sensor is bad. you sensor is good it just does not have enough current flowing back to the computer. i would recommend buying the sensor extension and a new sensor b/c it is not exactly the smartest thing in the world to not not let your engine know how much oxygen it has uin it. MY GOD YOU PPL FRUSTRATE ME. oh well its all good tho i like seeing what you ppl do to your cars

oil from your hands can kill a sensor, as well as any shock (i.e. dropping it) it might have incurred during install. or simply a wire was crossed. not quite so cut and dry. and a few people here have extended theirs by 6+ feet (dont ask me why that much, i wondered the same) without this problem. and if the wire is decent quality, there should be almost no extra ohm load from an extra foot or two.

Well, for 1 that's almost unreadable. And for 2, extending the wires with good soldered connects shouldn't limit currnet flow at all. Good soldered connections should have amost no resistance. Unless he use like 100 gauge wire, I see no problem with it.

ohh and the code prompted "2nd o2 sensor malfunction" - p01 41b

Any input on wheather the o2 sensor is mis reading, or just not reading at all? Thx for the help.
