Does the brand make a difference

I was wondering if there was a major difference between ordering an Injen short ram iintake or ordering an intake off of ebay for 1/10th of the price.
I was specifically looking at this.

This is the Injen I was looking to order.

This was the intake I found on ebay.

Thank you for any help.

The ebay intake is so cheap there must be something fishy about it.

The Brand does not really make a noticeable difference, but if you go ebay make sure its the right one for your engine first (i.e. look thru the listing and make sure its not for a DX if you have an EX or vice versa it may say one thing in the title and different in the description). Also the ebay filters aren't good, so you can get a cheap ebay intake then get a K&N or AEM filter the same size ($30-50) and it should be pretty similar performance

addiction2bass 09-11-2008 11:27 AM

well if ya got a DX... intake going straight up then i would sugest a good intake for a good fit! all the ebay ones ive seen never look like they fit right!
and like already said if you go with a cheap intake definatly replace the filter. get the intake measure the tube and buy the right size filter. i like the AEM Dryflow filter myself.

yeah that's why i decided to go with an AEM intake for my DX, cost me $90 on ebay and I wouldnt have to worry about fitment on the DX or changing the filter

addiction2bass 09-11-2008 11:50 AM

90bucks.... where the hell you find that.LOL i want one but dont want to spend 150-200bucks for one! :(

C-lo 09-11-2008 01:51 PM

I will try and find it again and see if I can link it to you. I got it on ebay brand new, its a SRI not a CAI (as you can see from the sig lol) if that's what you're looking for, but if what you want is an SRI just let me know and I will try and look in my past transactions thing on ebay; I bought it a few months ago so I hope its still there

addiction2bass 09-11-2008 01:58 PM

2 Attachment(s)
ya im fine with a SRI. hell my 96 doesnt even have that cut out opening infront for the CAI like my 99 has.LOL
my ghetto CAI.LOL
Attachment 25171
it was a spare i had from my 99.
no cut out up front behind the headlights :(

Attachment 25172

C-lo 09-11-2008 02:07 PM

well i just looked again (the seller was not in my recent transactions list cuz I bought it a few months ago) and the cheapest I could find on ebay right now for a DX throttle body is 130

hahah nice ghetto rigged intake tho, I have seen people who have DX's and got an EX SRI do that, just leave the stock air box on and take out the filter then attach it to that, not sure what that does for gains and/or sound

addiction2bass 09-11-2008 02:41 PM

well i dont expect any gains.... just better looks ;) and maybe the sound... right now i just have a stock filter and just slaped the tube empty on it.LOL
i modified my 99intake into a SRI. so i might swap them. hell ive even thought about geting some mandrel bent tubes and make my own intake ;)

As far as brand diffrences go, injen intake v.s ebay intake. Just think abercrombie v.s walmart. You can essentially get the same thing, a shirt (both shirts will cover you),or an intake (both intake will give a marginal power increase). the diffrences are in the quality of matereals the quality of fit and the cool looks. But again a shirt is a shirt and an intake is an intake it just depends on how much your willing to pay for the "better" quality Lol. sorry for the bad metaphore I hope it gets my point accross. :-)

Not only is there quality difference, but there is also a HP difference. E-bay SRI's have been known to not only not work or break down quickly, but to sometimes reduce your horsepower. There's an article about it in importtuner.com.

addiction2bass 09-14-2008 08:34 AM

well with a intake i highly doubt youll ever feel a difference in power. it will sound alot cooler/faster ;)

C-lo 09-14-2008 08:41 AM

Yeah you will not notice much but i'd still say its a simple mod worth doing. you can get a bit better gas mileage if you drive reasonably, it adds slightly to performance, and it sounds pretty sweet lol.

The only power difference I can say is "noticeable" with my SRI is that it holds speed slightly better going up hill on the highway now in 5th gear. I drive up/down the highway everyday to/from my house and before if I wasn't doing at least 70 (even flooring it) in 5th uphill I would slowly start to lose speed until I was at like 55 by the time it turned flat again then I could pick back up to 70. Now if i'm doin 65 and keep the gas almost floored I can maintain my speed (provided it's just me or me and one light person in the car), if I'm doin 70 by the time I get to the uphill part I can actually slowly accelerate uphill in 5th. Civic overdrive is definitely made for economy lol, especially the DX

actually what a lot of people do is get an e-bay intake and then replace the filter with a brand name filter, and they say it runs like a brand name filter after that.

addiction2bass 09-22-2008 06:10 PM

ya only reason for brand name is fitment and quality...

for instance the ebay intake..... DONT USE ENGINE CLEANER AROUND IT.LOL it will cloud the chrome and look like crap. ive done it, plus brand name typicaly uses a good quality filter which keeps your motor cleaner and running better!
hell my ebay filter fell apart and so did my friends intake filter. hell they are just like steel mesh glued together.... total crap!

Yah i bought an Ebay brand CAI, and i never even considered using the filter! I took one look at it and said " I'm not using this sh!t filter on my car ". I just went to the local parts store and bought the same size K&N and slapped it on. Works like a charm now.

addiction2bass 09-23-2008 06:53 AM

well im more of a ebay guy so i buy the filter from ebay as well. its cheaper ;)

coreyhp 10-04-2008 03:19 PM

Aright guys,
I installed the intake after taking 3 weeks to get it delivered from prostreet.com

The installation went fine but I do have a question.

I did notice that the intake vibrates, not a considerable amount but it does move alittle. Is this normal or should i fasten the intake to the car in a better way than the tiny peice of metal the the Injen kit came with.

thank you for your help.

Corey

addiction2bass 10-04-2008 03:32 PM

well the intake will move alittle..... the motor does move alittle as well so it just moves with it. as long as it does have abrace on it and its not rattling then its probably ok.

V8DIET 10-06-2008 04:52 AM

^+1 A little movemet is normal. Post some pics of it! :-)
