Exhaust pipe broke....advice.

Exhaust pipe broke....advice.

my exhaust pipe broke today on my 2000 ex coupe right behind the resolator(spelling) and was hanging so i cut it back a couple feet. This car is being stored for the winter but since it was a nice day, i decided to take it to work.

i will be going tuesday morning to get a new one installed. is it worth the extra money to get a stainless steel exhaust?

This car is 100% stock and i would like to keep it that way. At the same time, i wouldnt mind a little noise coming from the muffler/exhaust, but i dont want it to sound like a tin can.

should i just get the basic cheap standard pipe or how much more should stainless steel be?

pipe material doesn't matter as much as the way its bent. go with the regular steel and get it mandrel bent

what is mandrel bent?

There are 2 ways to bend pipes. Crush bent and mandrel bent. Crush is where you actually bend the pipe to make the angle you need. This restricts the pipe by mkaing it acutally smaller than it is originally since it is slightly "crushed" (thus the name).

Mandrel bent uses a very expensive, and from what i can tell rare, machine, that bends the pipe so that it stays the exact diameter all the way through the curves. This adds peformance, and is supposed to make a noticable difference over crush. More expensive, and hard to find somebody that can do it, but well well worth it.

i wouldn't exactly say its hard to find some shop who can do it. most performance shops will do it for you.

if I were you I would buy a stock exhaust from someone who was replacing theirs. you should be able to pick one up pretty cheap. . . cheaper than a nice sounding aftermarket exhaust
