Front mounted intake.

Front mounted intake.
I was wondering what you all thought about the air intakes that has their filter located in the lower grill of your car. I'm looking to free up some space and need the filter out of the engine bay.
I figured I would try something a little different. Anyone have any experience with them?

RE: Front mounted intake.
what year civic?
but IMO with most intakes ive seen which is only 3 types, ive seen one that goes TIGHT between the frame rails and go low, which would seem to give alittle more engine bay space BUT the intake tubes look to be close to the engine so might not be as cool of air thru the intake.
the other two intake types ive seen is short ram air, and a cold air intake which both pretty much go in the same location just one has filter in the engine bay and cold intake takes it from behind the bumper in the wheel well area.
but with the filter in the grill opening it will be alot EASIER to hydrolock the motor... alittle easier than a CAI because the CAI is behind some splash guards so keeps it alittle dryer so if ya go thru a puddle its alittle protected JUST SLIGHTLY.... but one thats out in the open can just suck in the water straight, posibly even sucking in moisture just from a hard rain or from water kick up from the car infront of you to kinda get alittle moisture in the motor which isnt REALLY BAD but isnt good for it of course

year 98.
Yeah, I've had experience with cold air and short ram. Just looking for something different. I never thought of the hydrolocking. Wow. Haha. I dunno why I didn't think of that.

You'd have to have a fine-mesh stainless steel screen in front of the filter to prevent damage from rocks that may get past the grill. As far as hydrolock, I'd say that as long as you don't drive through small streams with water up to the hood, you probably shouldn't worry about it.

You're look for something called an "Interfooler" or fake intercooler. They are on eBay every once in a while.
Here's one:

I wouldn't suggest getting one because I don't see a single benefit over a CAI, only disadvantages.
