getting new exhaust

Default getting new exhaust

on friday i'm gettin' new cat-back. it will be 2 1/4" pipe w/ baffled muffler for sound control. my ? is... do i need to do anything to air mixture or anything else to compensate for the extra breathing. car is a '88 civic 1.5 w/ dual point pgm-fi fuel injection

damn that thing is ancient. seems like it wouldn't be very well balanced either cuz the engine is like all the way on the drivers side. oh, and im pretty sure you dont have to adjust the a/f ratio, but someone correct me if i'm wrong.

its not really necessary, but reset the ecu. unplug the fuse to the ecu and let it sit for about 15-20 minutes, then plug it back in and start it and let it idle with no load on the engine for about 5 minutes.

it lets the ecu relearn the flow characteristics of the engine. it wont work miracles, but it can help a little.

thanks sacicons, already had work done, then did exactly as you suggested , don't know if it made a difference at all or not as i did not drive it first, but, it sure gits up and go's a lot quicker, got on frwy and bam i was doin 90, promptly slowed before i got a ticket though.

Im pretty sure you can just unplug the battery also. But the ECU will recognize the new change and change the mixture by itself.

yeah, but if you unplug the battery, it resets the radio and stuff too, and i hate having to reset that thing.

agree with you sacicons, unplugging requires alot less reseting and you are not stretching your battery cable clamps by lossening and tightening .........
