is it illegal to take the first cat off below the manifold to put the headers on?

theres only one cat , the other bludge in the pipe is a resonator , but yeah its illegal or at least in most states.

so, are you saying you dont have a header? and what do people do when they need to get inspected if they have a header?

no, he's saying that it's illegal to remove the cat completely. If you have an ex or Si, this won't be a problem if you're only replacing the header. If you have a dx/lx/cx/hx/whatever, you'll either have to find an aftermarket header with a built-in cat, or you'll have to convert your exhaust to an ex/Si exhaust (get ex/Si header, cat, and cat-back exhaust and put it all on; it'll bolt right up).

yep..... if ya got those low models just upgrade to a EX exaust... or just look for a EX cat converter and buy a cat back system after the cat thats right off the header...

i have a 97 civic, when i put my headers on, is going to eliminate the cat below the current manifold i have on now?
depending on what model you have, it might elminate the cat (in the DX's), and techincally it is illegal to remove the cat, but the only state that really cracks down hard about it is California

well if its all OEM piping then i dont see a problem with it BUT rocken the header will be worse id think....
