Headers for D16
Could putting on aftermarket headers without a catalytic converter cause problems with the ECU?
This is for a 97 lx 4 dr. automatic. |
I have never been able to get more than one header on the car at one specific time. How can you get headers installed?
:D Anyways, the cat converter is embedded within the exhaust manifold on your car. If you want to purchase a header, you would need to relocate the cat to the bottom of the car, like the "EX / SI" format. Check out the exhaust/intake/etc section for the DIY guide. If you remove the cat, your stock ECU will throw a C.E.L. |
assuming you mean check engine light yea i know that the header will turn that on. you can get rid of that with a o2 eliminator. but will putting on a new header without a cat. cause the car to not work for any reasons? Almost like the ECU wont except the header or something?

it'll be fine
|
Yea, the car will run, but your ECU will think something is wrong with one of the o2 sensors, adding fuel and pulling timing. Running richer (less mpgs) would be the most noticeable change.

but the ecu shouldnt think something is wrong if i put on a o2 eliminator right?

No idea. Those are a waste of time IMO.
Relocate the cat to the bottom of the vehicle as I stated earlier unless you live in a state that doesn't care about emissions. |
