Default Hey, just starting out...

Hey this is my first time posting on this site and i wanted some advice. i will be getting my mom's civic very soon (by next month) and i want to work on it. i have about 1000 to spend but a little more than half of that will be going towards exterior and sound system. ok, so basically, as a starter, how can i get the best hp per dollar combonation. or anything else interesting that i should look into? thanks a lot guys.

I got my civic the same way(but i didnt have any money to spend) i would go with header and cat-back and if you have enough money left over get an intake. Intake wont make a huge difference, but you'll be able to feel a big difference from the header and exhaust. If you want any advice on what brands just ask....

Hey! I'm in the same boat as 00civiclx except that I have a 99 Civic Ex M/T. I am looking into upgrading my intake to the AEM V2 which from what I've read had really good ratings and reviews. I haven't gotten a chance to research on upgrading headers. I noticed Blackhatch124 mentioned that you'll want to upgrade the header first before the intake in order to get a boost in HP. I am mostly concerened about boosting my accelleration, is upgrading the header before the intake a better option? As far as header installation goes is that something a novice person can do. I am just starting out with auto mechanics and car modifications and would prefer to install the units on my own or have someone experienced help me to do it. I would like to learn the ins and outs of my car so if I can I would like to install the header myself instead of having a shop do it for me. I'm just concerned about the difficulty in installing a header. Any advice?

start with the intake. the install is fairly simple, and i believe the v2 goes entirely in the engine bay, whereas the original aem cai goes through the hole in the passenger side and drops down in front of the wheel.

As for a header, DC sport is pretty popular and reasonably priced.

Hey thanks for the advice on the header. I was contemplating whether I should do the header first before the intake. But as someone suggested on this forum I should go with the intake first. I think I'll take the advice and go with the AEM V2 then work on getting a DC header after I get enough money. There was one thing I was curious about though. I drove my friends integra today and it seems to have a short shifter on his transmission. Shifting from one gear to the other was easy and smooth and it kinda gave you a feeling of more control. In terms of performance and efficiency what are the benefits of having a short shifter? I was looking at parts to convert mine to a short shift and found a few kits but not sure which one exactly I need for my 99 Civic EX. One of the kits said billet short shift adaptor and the other said plate. Any suggestions? I'll include the link so you guys can check it out. And again my worries on installation and its difficulty for the short shifter. Is it a complicated install for a novice? Thanks in advance!

Heres the link to the short shifter parts I mentioned:
