high flow cat/test pipe questions.

I have an axel back exhaust system, and i want more sound out of it. Will geting a high flo cat affect exhaust sound? What about test pipes, if you have one, do you remove it and put a cat on for Emission? what high flo cats that are cheap and have 02 sensors?

enigma34 01-08-2009 08:08 PM

i think my cat is built into my mid pipe.... maby i catn do this. ill take a look at it in morning

highflow cats are a waste of money unless your converting your exhaust to an ex, dont to the test pipe route. Its noisey and its illegal. You might get 1hp more with the test pipe, so imo its not worth breaking the law and polluting the earth.

Next time use the search button, they question is verryyyyyy common

Convert to EX exhaust by getting a header, high flow cat, and full catback. Your exhaust tone will improve significantly.

Hell, even just a full catback will help. The small exhaust pipes before the axle back are restricting airflow and sound. Just for the love of god, don't get a fart can.

I want to convert to an EX. I already have an aftermarket axle back exhaust.

If i get a header thast for a 96 EX it will fit perfect on my hx?

After i install the EX header, where does the cat go?

Can a exhaust shop weld on an aftermarket cat?

Will geting just an ex header and high flo cat, and leveing mid pipe stock still affect sound?
my new dwon pipe should fit my mid pipe?
I think my header has a built in cat, so what is that piping thast biger in the middle of my mid pipe?

If i get an ex header, that cat is what connects it to down pipe? no welding needed?
Where do my 2 02 sensor go? one in the header and other in the cat?

Yes but probably not as much as changing the midpipe will

yes the header's downpipe will fit, but your midpipe is about 16.6" too long for the cat to be there, so you will be running catless. This is what I recommend doing temporarily to drive to an exhaust shop if you follow my advice (see below).

precisely. another thing you will need is an O2 sensor extension wire harness from passwordJDM.com, since you will changing the location of the O2 sensor

My recommendation is that if you like your current axle-back, buy a header, and a universal magnaflow cat. Go to an exhaust shop, and have them make you a custom 2.25" midpipe/S-bend and have them also weld in the cat, and an O2 sensor bung (directly after the cat).

Put the header on beforehand, and attach the midpipe to the header. You will throw a CEL (check engine light). This will be fine for you to drive to the exhaust shop. Don't forget to take your stock catalytic converter with you (off of the car), they'll need the flanges. Also bring your O2 sensor, extension wire harness, and the new universal cat.

Also, make sure you talk to the exhaust shop beforehand.

Ok. im going to buy the stuff. i may not have the money for exhaust shop, but ill have the stuff ready.

here is the magnaflow cat, is this the cheapest cat to get? he list about diffrent pipe size.

here is the O2 sensor extension wire harness.

Im still looking for headers, some say the pipeing size, so that may change what cat size to get?

trustdestruction 01-11-2009 02:43 PM

yea that'll work

you'll also need an O2 bung for the exhaust shop to weld on, you want it welded on right after the cat.

shop around for better deals on that

just get a megan racing header... i believe they have a 2.5" outlet

quick question... you're not in California, right?

enigma34 01-11-2009 03:12 PM

im in CT.

Ya im looking more at headers around this price.

Im also looking at some interior mods. I dont know what to get..! axhaust or interior mods..

The interior stuff is oem stuff painted, Dash Vents, Door Handles, and the plastic thing under the door handle, and Cluster Bezel. all painted Electron Blue Pearl. Im bidding on it, and it may be close to $90, which sucks. i think its worth it.
