Homemade SRI

Hi guys.

I'm currently trying to replace/upgrade my entire exhaust system, and I figure I'd start with the intake first. I've done some research and have decided to convert my intake to an SRI. I've already done a resonator delete, so all I've got is the factory nozzle going to the filter box. My idea is this:

Instead of replacing the entire nozzle, I could just cut it to size and leave it where it is. If necessary, I could cut off the two little tubes on the bottom of the main nozzle where air was re-routed through the resonator from the nozzle. (These may end up being on the piece cut off). After that, all I would need to do would be to attach a performance filter on the end of the nozzle and remove the stock filter from the filter box.

Would this work? My main reservation is in regards to the filter box- should I remove it? If I leave it on, will there be any problems?

sri are dirt cheap, just buy one from ebay and throw away your factory airbox

don't use the crap filter that comes with it though, buy one made by a good company like AEM or K&N

yeah your right about that. if my car was newer lest rust didnt smell i would put the 60$ filter on but i just dont need it. but if i had your cr-z i would have a aem intake to begin with

eh my car is probably going to remain stock under the hood. The only mods I really want to do is suspension and wheels, but I don't have money for that so i don't know if i'll ever do it.

back on topic now lol

I like the way you think. always do Suspension first, hell i'm not going to even do exhaust until i have my suspension and wheels dialed in.

lol. how much power does the cr-z have and what motor is in it? vtec?

trustdestruction 12-28-2010 11:06 AM

122HP iVTEC

The extra torque from the electric motor makes a huge difference though. I think my CR-Z would have beat my old del Sol in a race.
