Default I Need A New Muffler.

Alright, So I'm purchasing this '95 Honda Civic EX Coupe and the guy says I just need a new muffler and that's it.
I don't need a new exhaust system, just the muffler on back...
and I'm like ok..
So, I'm going to ask him more in depth when I go get the car because I know NOTHING about cars.
Is muffler and exhaust the same thing??
or what..

also, my car is an auto..(i dont want to tranny swap)
What can I do to add more horsepower..
cold air intake?

get a full catback if you need to replace the muffler and want some more power. they run about 450-550 will add 5-10 hp. cold air will add 4-8, depending on its app and the model

Muffler is the big can thingy that muffles the sound the engine makes.

Exhaust is everything that the burnt waste the enigine creates flows out through. everything form the engine back is the exhaust

Yeah, if it needs a new muffler anyway, go for a cat-back. That's all of the exhaust components from the catalytic converter backward- basically all of the piping and stuff under the car. Our newest sponsor has a special of Skunk2 (kick-***) cat-backs for $390 shipped if I remember right. Drop him a line.

And welcome to HCF. If you know nothing about cars then you are in the right place.

add more power eh?

[sm=exactly.gif] what everyone else said...since you need a new muffler anyway the rest of the exhaust tubing probably isn't that great. Cat back is a good start.

If you're really stuck on having an automatic you might get a Integra LS motor and auto tranny for a little more power too. it's not much more power than an EX though. I think JDM Integras might have come with auto and vtec though. I read that somewhere. Not to sure about how accurate that is but I'm pretty sure I read it in Honda Tuning magazine.

Anyway, congrats on the purchase!

I'm going to NTB tomorrow to get some things checked.
I'll look into that cat-back exhaust also.
Thanks for the advice..
I wish there were some pictures or something.
I'm a visual learner..
I need to see it to know it.
