Magnaflow vs Maxflow muffler review
 

Here's a comparison of my old Magnaflow muffler to my new Maxflow muffler.

I've had the Magnaflow cat-back exhaust on my car for a good 6 years now. After years of abuse, it was beginning to show. First I had a weld crack on the resonator. Got that patched up real quick. Then the hangers on the muffler broke off at the welds. Part of the reason these happened was probably due to the motor mount inserts I have. Making the whole exhaust shake and with no flex pipe, putting strain on the welds. The other was probably some slight rust around the welds on the muffler. The rest of the exhaust piping is still in good shape so I decided to leave the piping alone, keep the Magnaflow resonator and just weld in the new Maxflow muffler. This is also with the stock cat in there and DC Sports 4-2-1 header.

Overall, the Maxflow muffler sounds waaaay better. It is quieter throughout the RPM's. It has a nice deep tone to it, no rasp to it at all surprisingly. It does not drone inside the car, I can listen to my music and talk with ease now. With a 2.25" slant cut tip instead of the 4" tip, it looks much much better. The Maxflow is also slightly lighter than the Magnaflow muffler. And the guy who installed this muffler said I'd probably gain a tiny bit more power due to the design of the Maxflow over the Magnaflow.

Got this video before and after I replaced the Magnaflow. I shot the video with a GoPro Hero and also a regular point & shoot Canon camera so you could get the best idea of how these sound.

I really like the sound (and look) of the MaxFlow.

For years, I've always heard that you need to spend more on a Honda exhaust so it sounds and performs well, so I knew it wasn't going to be cheap. I'd been considering the Magnaflow as a future upgrade (expecting my stock one to rust out on Honda's regular schedule), but am glad there seems to be a more viable option that's along the lines of what I was looking for anyway.

Does MaxFlow make the rest of the cat-back system, or is it just the muffler that's available?

I was very shocked and surprised when I heard my car start up and rev a little after this new muffler was on. I thought that no doubt it would be quieter, but, I didn't think it would actually get rid of all of the raspy/buzzy sound completely. So after all it is possible to have a single cam, bolt on civic have a nice low and deep tone thoughout the revs. Just need the right muffler lol. Although I do think having the stock cat and having a resonator in there also really helps. Without either one of those, it would probably be a bit more raspy/buzzy.

I don't think they make a full exhaust system, it's just the muffler. I thought it was very reasonably priced. The muffler from the shop I got this done at was $55. The total price including muffler, new rubber hangers, hanger rods, a little tubing for the tip and labor was $135. IMO, it was money well spent. It looks 10x cleaner and sounds much better. Not to mention a little less worry about getting hassle from police.

I'm also looking for an exhaust system for my Civic. I'm not a big fan of those oversized 4" mufflers with there loud sound. I seen the vid of the before an after an it's a big difference between the 2 an for the price not a bad deal. Does the Maxflow come in SS? I've also seen that Magnaflow sells a cat converter that is in SS I'm looking into buying. Still doing some research on it an making sure it's emissions compilable with my state. I'll probably need to do some fab work on the system to get it to work an sound the way I'd like it. I'll post up some pics once I get everything together an start the project. Your system looks an sounds way better now.

Where did you get the max flow? I can't seem to find them anywhere
