Default Muffler Help / Ideas

So I am trading my car a week from friday and the civic sounds very, very bad. I told my friend, who I am trading, I will see if I can fix it.

The stock muffler is on the civic and the previous driver (brother) drilled holes in the bottom of the muffler (dumbass). There are 4 1/4" holes in the muffler.
I put my fingers over the holes and it sounded alot better. It was amazingly quiet.
I tried covering up the holes really quick with some quick steel and that was a complete fail.

So I am wondering, how should I cover them holes? If I weld wont I just weld right through the muffler itself?

Here is a rough picture of what it looks like. The muffler is for a different gen but it's just to show you where the holes are.
Holes are marked in red.

Please no negative comments or pointless comments.

Thanks

Would welding a sheet of aluminum over the holes work? Or putting a piece of aluminum over them and using rivets? I suck at this kind of thing. Any other suggestions?

Hey genius you shouldn't be welding if you dont even know that you can't weld aluminum to steel. One is a ferrous metal the other is not I don't even know why I'm giving you advice after your last comment to me which you should have been banned for.

Well for one, my dad would be the one welding becuase he does that for a living. I didn't know you couldnt weld aluminum to steel, like I said, I suck at this kind of stuff.

Also, I apologize for the comment I made before in a different thread. I was in a bad mood and you were the first one I thought to attack. Don't take it personally.

Seriously? Vaseline? Are you sure?

I just talked to my dad about it and showed him the holes. He said he is just going to tack weld it shut. He said I don't need to weld any kind of plate on there.
