hey whats up i just bought a 2001 honda civic ex from one of my friends its an automatic and i want to make it faster. what you think is the best things to do it and what the best name brands.

How much money do you have to spend on mods? Since it's an auto, I really don't think a turbo would be the best option here unless you're willing to swap out thetransmission.

Intake - I'd say AEM orWeapon R here. Short-Ram intakes have better throttle response, but that's about the only real difference between that and a cold air intake. $100-$250

Header - It doesn't really matter what brand you go with here (but I wouldn't trust ebay)... you'll see minimal gains (for a header, anyway) unless you're willing to drop $700+ here. Good brands off the top of my head: Megan Racing, DC, Hedmen Hedders $150-$400

Exhaust - I don't really know brands here... my exhaust is custom bent... $500+ for a good brand (DC, Greddy, Tanabe, RS-R)

It would really help to know your budget

well, after the I/H/E, you could maybe add a throttle body spacer for about $100. Lightweight pulleys could help to free up a few horses, too --- they'll run you $170 if you go with AEM. Other than that, there's really no good way to gain horsepower without looking into forced induction or cams.

Personally, I'd say short ram for a few reasons:

1) There's no real noticeable difference in power between short ram and cold air intakes
2) You have to drive through a lake to get the filter swamped
3) SRI's are a little over half the price of their cold-air counterparts

maybe you can tell me about an engine chip. what does it do and does it work well enough to get it

Okay, I'm not speaking from experience with chips, but for the most part, they change the air/fuel ratio to get a richer fuel mixture. This does work, but it'll kill your gas mileage. I'd say if you must chip it, try a Venom 400. They're about $300, and they work with both automatic and manual, vtec and non-vtec hondas. Check out http://www.summitracing.com/to look at them. I think http://www.Jegs.comcarries them for a little less than Summit sells them for. I have experience with both Summit and Jegs---both great companies; shipping times are great (the longest I had to wait for anything was about 4 days from summit and 2 days from Jegs!)

Oh, and I haven't heard anything bad about gas mileage with the Venom 400, and I've talked to people that have it.

don;t chip the d17 its useless. the ecu will re-adjust to stock setting over time.

As for mods, if you just want a little more punch and throttle response, get an intake, exhaust, and header. Shop around on forums and you'll find good deals (everything for under $800). Other than that, you can do some suspension upgrades to make it feel faster around turns and such.

the d17 is useless for power. so if that's what you want, don't waste money on bolt ons. either turbo (still a waste of money) or swap your engine. the d series was designed with one thing, and only one thing in mind: fuel efficiency.
