Plugged Cat

My recent engine problems were caused by a plugged stock cat. My question to you guys is whether I should by a new high flow cat, buy a test pipe or just make my own test pipe. I don't want to buy a cheap cat that will just fail after a while and i don't want to buy an expensive cat that I don't need. I am going to keep my car really stock, especially on the exhaust. No emissions tests in Minnesota so that is not an issue and i don't think a test pipe will make the exhaust sound bad. What do you all think?

Yeah but you should still have a cat.. buy a high flow cat from magnaflow.. procivic.com has one for under 90... do the trees a favor.

Yeah I like that one but I don't have the time to wait for the shipping. I need my car and it runs like crap now so i need a quick fix.

If you want to keep your car stock, then don't get a test pipe. That's just my opinion. I'd say get a high flow cat but if you're not willing to wait for it then I don't know what to tell ya.

Thats exactly the way i feel about. On my 98 EX that i used to have i had a WS2 exhaust with a cheap OBX cat. It was fine but what i think i am going to do is just order a cat and who knows what until i install it.

Want a cheap fix? This is what I did when I had the same problem. Take the stock cat off and put it in a vise. Put a thin pipe into the honeycombs and hit the other end with a hammer. It will all fall out eventually giving you a hollow unclogged "cat". Bolt it back in and youre good to go. Then if u want a to order a cat there is 0 downtime

pete, absolute genius as always... that quick fix should be bumped. a lot of people dont think of that kind of stuff in a pinch.

High Flow cat, and maybe a muffler, idk why you wana stay stock with an exhaust, but it seems like a stock car with stock exhaust and a high flow cat will be louder in a very bad way, so maybe a nice Apexi, GReddy or DC muffler would make it sound better...
